Default Black (not black pearl) Emblems

Hey all, has anyone used any of the black Fsport emblems off ebay/amazon? I prefer regular black to the blackpearl option (looks and price). Some reviews were great, other said the lettering was crooked etc.. expected flaws from knockoffs.
Alternatively, if anyone has a stock trunk Fsport emblem lying around, I'd buy it to paint. Dealer wanted $90 after tax for the emblem

$90? I got two from Amazon for about $12, not OEM but they are metal. I do have an extra, but probably easier to just order:

Amazon Amazon

As for the emblems, most folks seem to Plastidip them.

Mine is a ‘14 so no trunk badge. I did paint my fender badge once I got it dechromed so the color scheme worked. I also debadged it and painted the rear L black.

What kind of paint did you use to get in that small area, paint pen? How smooth did the finish come out? My IS is white so i'm going to leave the inside white and paint the silver part black. Or just order some of amazon, my only concern is some reviews said lettering is flawed on the knock offs

I used a paint pen (Pen-touch) with permanent quick dry paint. The finish is just fine since it's on the inside part of the emblem. I doubt the result would be ideal for the silver part if you used a pen. If I were to try to do what you want, I'd paint several light coats with a brush very carefully.

The ONLY reason that I painted them is because the shop that installed the vinyl on my chrome painted all the emblems black, this included the F Sport emblems on the side (I had no idea this was their plan). Looked horrible - black squares on the sides of my car.
I ordered new emblems and painted them prior to installing them on the car. I don't know if it would be a good idea to try painting with them already installed, though. If the paint ran it would be a major problem.

Yeah I would only paint them laying flat on a table. (the emblem, not me)

I've thought about it before but seems it would be hard to get a perfect finish and it would bug me. plus you'd have to sand the inside and all the intricate letters/corners/crevices and that would be tedious, if not outright impossible. Stock looks good too.

Sanding isn't necessary but you definitely want gravity to work with you not against you. I think the stock emblem looks great (especially on white)......I just have a specific color scheme going.
