Video on Straight Through Muffler design vs Muffler Delete
Found this video a few days ago where the Senior Manager at Magnaflow explains the difference between the two (Video is from 2015). I fast forwarded the video to 20:39. The whole video is informative though if you have the time.
**Edit, for some reason the video starts at random time slots that I did not pick each time I check it, so be sure to fix it to 20:39.
Take from it what you will. Pros and cons between the two are negligible in the real world daily driving, IMO. Mainly sharing this so that others have a better idea whats going on with their systems.
I wouldn’t say it’s completely negligible, as I have their straight through muffler design and at low rpm it makes a huge difference. Let me explain, I have no resonators on my car just those mufflers and my cars has a mellow sound at cruising speed but sounds like a straight pipe at wot. Now my friend has an rc350 with no resonators and no mufflers, a straight pipe now his has a lot of rasp and is way louder than mine at cruising speed. So it is doing something.
Poor choice of words on my part. Shouldn’t have said “negligible in real world” meant to say negligible in daily driving. I personally went with a JoeZ exhaust which has a straight through muffler design. Not a fan of rasp. At all. So that should show where I stand.
I haven’t noticed any difference in power with the straight through muffler and that’s just my own experience. Maybe a bit of power gain at the top if anything. Totally in love with the sound though. It’s only an axleback, I’m not going to kid myself.
Straight Through Muffler > Muffler Delete. Generally speaking.
