Default DRL Replacement

Hey, has anyone here bought a replacement DRL LED? My driver side has gone out and I'm debating between a NSF-certified/DOT certified replacement or the OEM. The OEM is about $420 while aftermarket is $220, which is significant to me.
Anyone have experience with the stock DRLs going out and aftermarket replacements?

Thanks in Advance.

In my personal experience, if you want the quality, rarely do you ever beat OEM.

ebay ebay ebay. $200-225 shipped. I notice quite a few ISs on the road with these out. not a good sign if this is normal. they tend to be (2014 models it seems though) what year is yours?

these should last an absolute lifetime. sad they are going out

I'm curious as well if this is an issue specific to '14s. Seems like there are a lot of TSBs and issues with the '14 IS's. I hope it's not a prevalent issue and as E46CT said, these DRLs should last forever, assuming you don't flip them off/on over and over again constantly.

I have a 2014. I'm hoping it's not an electrical thing. I've owned the car for two years, so I don't know if it was replaced before that, but even that's too short.

FYI, I normally keep my DRLs off during the day. Ironically I was worried about burning them out (yeah, I know its LED).

I'm probably going to buy some aftermarket ones today. Even at the risk of lower durability, $420+ for that LED light is too much for me (just had a kid too).

LEDs should be inherently resilient to cycling. That should have no effect. It's likely not the LED themselves but the control board/power supply. Someone want to ship me one to see if i can figure it out. We should work a solution for this for the community so people don't have to buy new ones. i'll almost guarantee you it's something simple. like a 10 cent resistor that burnt out or something.

and by the way you guys should be driving with DRLs on full time. could be the thing a distracted person notices before they decide to step out into the street. same goes for a distracted driver. i leave mine on FULL TIME.

Not only is it safer, but the car is much sexier with the DRL’s on.

In Canada, the DRL is always on. For US versions, they can can be turned off?

Yeah, we don’t have a law requiring DRL on cars so the ones that do a lot of them have the option to turn it off. I’m sure eventually they will pass a law requiring like they did the backup camera recently.

It always boggles my mind when I see any Lexus driving around without the DRLs on. Usually the driver is just not using the automatic headlights, but rather manually turning them on and off.

That’s exactly what happens 95% of the time I’m sure.

hey bro, I'm new at all this wiring stuff so I'm clueless as to what you mean but I am having this issue that my passenger side DRL goes off at nighttime or in dark areas like tunnels parking garages etc. Works fine during day time but as soon as it gets dark that one side goes out as headlights turn on. Not sure if your knowledge would help me out. I figured since that DRL still works fine during the day it can't be burnt out or something. anything helps, thanks.
