Question 2017 IS300 - YZZA1 or YZZA5 ?

Doing my first oil change after the free one at 10K Miles. About every place I looked (including posts here) say that the ...YZZA5 filter is the one to use, so that's what I got.
I found that it was larger than the one currently in the car. Got a ...YZZA1 filter from the local Toyota dealer that seemed to be the same size as the one I was replacing.
Would the YZZA5 filter been OK to use ?

2006-2015 IS250 RWD (4GR-FSE) and 2006-2017 IS350 RWD (2GR-FSE) use the 04152-YZZA3
2006-2015 IS250 AWD (4GR-FSE), 2011-2017 IS350 AWD (2GR-FSE) and 2016-2018 IS300 AWD (2GR-FSE) use the 04152-YZZA5
2016-2017 IS200t RWD (8AR-FTS), 2018 IS300 RWD (8AR-FTS), and 2018 IS350 RWD use 04152-YZZA1

04152-YZZA1 is shorter, 04152-YZZA3 and A5 are the same length (longer than A1) but the A5 includes a drain adapter and o-ring for AWD models.

If you do actually have a 2017 IS300, it would have to be an AWD model with the 2GR-FSE and would definitely take the longer A5 filter. The shorter one will filter properly. There's a good chance someone put the wrong one in before. Either that or you actually have a 2018 IS300 RWD, in which case the A1 would be correct.

Is your car AWD or RWD? Are you sure it's a 2017?

She is in fact, a 2017 IS300 F-Sport with all wheel drive and the 2GR-FSE engine.
I just found the paperwork from the 10K service I had done at the dealer, it shows they used a 04152-YZZA1 filter.
At the time, they also set my tire pressure to 50 PSI.
This place is a relatively new dealership (open around a year).
Factory trained service technicians, eh ?

Is it possible to use the YZZA3 instead of the YZZA1? On my G37S, I use the longer filter that the Infiniti V8’s use and it works fine and is actually recommended by a lot of people. I’m curious if I can do the same to get a little extra filtering.

No, with the type of filter the IS uses, you need to use the correct filter, as it is just the filter element itself and the housing is reused. A taller filter wouldn't fit in the housing and a shorter filter will not seat properly, allowing unfiltered oil past; essentially meaning you aren't filtering the oil.
