Default Time to Change FRONT Pads/Rotors?

Hey Guys,

Wondering if I could get some inputs from you guys regarding the front pads/rotors.

I got 35K odo on my IS350 fsport, and the brakes have never been changed; car was bought new.

Last time I checked with my Tech buddies was at 30K Service, and the Fronts were estimate to get changed at 35K, rears are still looking fresh. I am noticing lips forming on the front, but I do not hear much squeaking when braking.

Advisable to just change the front setup? Planning to get this done along with 35K Service.

I got my front pads and rotors changed at 45k miles I did change my pads to low dust version around 1k miles after I got the car so it sounds like you can last a bit more on current pads. When I changed them out at 45k miles mechanic said my pads were around 4/32.

"Low dust" version?

Are they OEM? If so, you got the Part #?

I am just planning to change with the same OEM pads/rotors that came with the car stock.

I don't remember the part# I believe I got the same type of low dust (non high friction) pads from 2nd Gen IS part. It's actually not supposed to be compatible with 3rd IS maybe that's why I started to have squeaking noise around 25k miles. Right now I'm using Akebono ACT1118 ProACT. Almost no brake dust and braking performance is no worse than previous pads. Link below.

35k you must do mostly highway. either way, they're way due especially if you can feel a lip on the rotor. the parts are so cheap and easy to DIY it's a no brainer to do them early and often. i've been replacing my brakes with quite a bit of life left on them still. brakes are one thing you dont want to jerk with.

Do most folks change out their brake fluid when changing out pads and rotors? I used to always bleed my brakes when doing brake jobs, not sure that it is necessary for an IS350. I'm at 50k and almost sure that everything is still original as far as pads and rotors (2nd owner).

it's a good idea to replace your brake fluid or at least bleed it. brake fluid absorbs moisture and that moisture can corrode your system internally.

You right.

I'll just get the front changed along with the 35k service

Think I'll just stick with OEM parts for now. I got use to the brake dust, I wash the car 1~2 weeks anyways.

Could you explain what you mean by lip on the rotor?

This is pretty pronounced, but I assume he means something like this.

I'm surprised you pulled 35k miles off a set of brakes and rotors, and that someone else here said they got 45k from them? wtf??

I'm changing mines at 13k, mines are done. At 35k you need to replace rotors for sure with new brake pads.

I got OEM rotors and Akebono ACT1118 brake pads because the brake dust is horrid on the F-Sport brake pads. Paid around $240 for it all. Still need to get it done haven't had the time due to work.

Are the 'low dust version' pads those from the Base 3IS IS350? because we're at 33K miles on my wife's Base 2015 IS350 and the brakes are no where close to needing service. It would seem like a no brainer to change to these pads after hearing how often F-sport owners have to change their pads.

I believe so. The high friction ones are F Sport stockers.

the f sport pads do tear through rotors... what happens when you have metal on metal i guess. but great stopping =)

This is how mine look atm. There is a silver line in the outter and inner rim of the rotor. Thats the lip that forms with these brake setup.

Paying ~$300 for everything including 35K service

Those rotors do look like they are done given the lip is so pronounced.
