Default 3IS IS250 Muffler Delete

Greetings fellow IS owners!

Not too long ago I was in the market for an exhaust, but I wasn't trying to 'break the bank'. I decided to go with just chopping the mufflers off and welding in pipes.

Here are some sound clips to whoever may be interested in doing this to their car as well:

The exhaust now sounds a lot more raspy, and aggressive, without being obnoxiously loud.
I occasionally hear a few pops and crackles when shifting gears, or coming to a stop. But not very loud. Definitely wish the exhaust had a few more crackles!
The drone is very mild when normally accelerating, and at highway speeds I'm unable to hear any drone. When really getting on it, the exhaust sounds really good inside the cabin!
I'm very content with the muffler delete, but I do still do have the desire to have a bit of a louder setup. I think I may go with a resonator delete soon

Feel free to ask any questions regarding my setup, or feel free to comment about your exhaust setups! I'd love to hear!

-Elias

Do you drive with your windows down at highway speeds? I am pretty sure most aftermarket exhaust / muffler delete set up will have drone at 2- 2.2k rpm. This is especially apparent when driving up a slope / hill with part throttle.

Driving with windows down "helps" as there are ambient noises but with windows up, drone can be pretty bad.

Is the muffler just bolted on for the is 2015-18? I want to do a muffler delete but I would need to put it back on!

Never been a fan of straight muffler-deleting, but have to admit from the clips I've heard, that doing so on the 3is turns out pretty decently. Certainly not as refined as a proper aftermarket exhaust, but it's not as raunchy as happens on most cars. If one really wants to improve sound but has a very limited budget and doesn't mind drone and the loudness then it's a viable option (except in CA!). That being said, adding an aftermarket midpipe or deleting resonators after a muffler delete is a most definite "ugh" unless you're a fan of essentially running straight pipes. IMO, the muffler delete works because we have pretty decently-tuned OEM resonators, and why I'm considering keeping them with my catback.

Sounds pretty good. Much better than I would assume for a 250 too.
My IS350 with inVidia axleback isn't that different, just refined out the rasp, pops and a bit lower (but I am a 350).

I am getting mine done the weekend after, I bought new tips from eBay and I am just going to ask them to cut the muffler with the OEM tips and hold onto them and in the future if I ever want them back on, just get them re-welded on.

My guess would be no. The muffler is pretty far removed from O2 sensors or anything relating to the catalytic converter which is the only thing that would cause check-engine lights when it comes to exhaust.

thats what i was thinking too but i had a few buddies of mine with 2is's get different results, one with an 08 250 got a muffler res delete and was fine, eventually straight piped and tune and was still good.

my other friend with an 07 250 went with a similar route but just muffler delete and realized he got dash lights, eventually went with a full axel back system and had to get the light fixed at a shop
