3IS Simple/"Dumb" Questions Thread - Ask away and get answers!
When it lifts up upon unlocking, it actually is helpful many times. I've noticed if I go to a grocery store and carrying bags back that on my 3 series since it lifts up completely it actually makes it easier to put things away. What I do miss is the cargo net from my IS, man that thing was extremely helpful. My 3 does not have one sadly.
Recently bought a 2016 IS 300 F Sport...this is a great thread, which I've read from start to finish. 2 questions...
1...my car doesn't have a "locking" gas door. Was this an option or designed that way? My wife's 2008 RX350 locks/has the fuel button. Just curious, but seems kind of odd to me.
2.. is there a way to keep the center gauge(speedometer/tach) "locked" in the offset position? Mine resets to the center position when I turn the ignition off. Maybe this is in the manual, but if so, I overlooked it.
Small rant: I can't believe I have to go to the dealer to get my remote/car programmed for "auto-down" on the windows using the key fob. My last 2 cars were Nissan Altimas and didn't need dealer intervention to set that up. :-(
Had the car 5 weeks and am extremely happy so far.
Thanks for the help

2. No
Designed that way. With BMW, since the 90s, the gas door locks with the door locks.
The f sport gauge resets every time.
auto down is a cool feature. on my earlier bmws, you also had to get it programmed at the dealer or through special BMW software called "NCS expert." it's astonishing what kinds of things you could code on a BMW... from the 90s! Just the way all cars are today. they want to prevent kids from rolling it down i guess or maybe if its raining outside and you sit on your key fob.. that would be bad! though i imagine it wouldn't be hard to program integration with the rain sensor to stop this...

How necessary are the underbody wind deflectors in front of each wheels? I tend to scrape those coming out of driveways with RSR downs. I heard they are for high speeds like autobahn and stuff and won't affect much in our highway speeds like 65~80mph.
your car won't spin out of control or anything but it's a nice engineering detail to have. it's what separates your car from a premium RWD sports sedan from a toyota corolla.
it serves as to deflect water away from the tires as well.

People who are Into modding for top mpg did tests and they're rather useful even at US highway speeds.
Some people removed them. After review, I decided to leave mine on although they're banged up and scraped pretty good.
Lol not a dumb question I have a G37S and it threw me off when I got the IS. I just let it find it’s way, though at first I was super conscious about it and would guide the lever. When I get in my G37S now it feels weird not feeling that zigzag though haha.
I think the zigzag is to try to minimize accidental movement of the lever but idk if someone else wants to input on that. Also might help to know that you changed into a different position since you’ll really feel it when you move the lever.
On the 2IS mp3 playback holding the skip jumped to the next folder instead of jumping to the next song, on the 2018 it fast forwards the song which seems silly for a car stereo... is there a way to set it to folder skip or is there another key for this outside of the nav screen.
How does Toyota collect the telemetry data from Lexus Safety System enabled cars, is the car connected by sat (which I doubt due to costs) or do they just download the data when you bring your car in for service?
I believe the answer is Cellular network...I think the car comes with 10 years free network service for the safety system...after that, you pay.
You can do whatever you want it's virtually impossible to hurt the car or its transmission by your action or inaction when it comes to shifting. the computer will do what it needs to regardless. so don't sweat it. shift or (don't shift) away!
