wheel choice, offset, scrub radius question
Firstly, thanks to everyone that has replied to my previous messages. I’m getting further along in what to look for in the set of wheels that’s right for me. On to the topic.
For reference, front wheel specs are 18x8 +45. I was nearly going to pull the trigger on a 18x8.5 +28 wheel but then got into reading about scrub radius. I read that people have increased their the scrub radius by 0.5 - 2 inches to enhance road feel. However, I don’t know where to find the information for our baseline stats, or if it’s possible to accurately measure and calculate it (ie: how much scrub radius our vehicle already has at stock config).
By reading about scrub radius, I also learned that a lower offset will contribute to increased inner tire wear. Something I wasn’t originally aware of... Would I be better off with a 18x9.5 +40 in front? But then the concern goes to rubbing of the control arm... I’m looking to either maintain or enhance road feel. I know tires will play a huge role, but I think offset is also important.
Coilovers would follow this. Also, no idea what tread width I’d run in the front at this point.
TLDR;
Would I be better off with 18x8.5 +28 in front or 18x9.5 +40? Car would be initially sitting on stock suspension, but with coilovers to follow. Car will be daily driven with autocross/track day 3-4 times a year.
Thanks again.
