Default Hard Wired Radar Detector

Hello everyone. I performed my first mod to my IS. Not much of a mod, but nevertheless! I hardwired my radar detector, I just transferred the cable from my G37S. I know there are a bunch of sticky’s for hardwiring, but I just wanted to post some pics of how it looks in case other members are curious. It’s on my 18’ IS 300. Have a good one everybody.

Did you consider a more permanent mount like a BlendMount? I think it's less intrusive since it's right under the mirror. Pic attached.

Hey EZZ. I did buy one for my G37 and I installed it but I didn’t like how it looked or how bulky it was. Just wasn’t for me so I’m sure I would feel the same with my IS. I know the suction cup stock mount isn’t much better but it’s much more compact. Thanks for the advice and pic though.

I've been out of the loop but do these things actually help you guys or just give you a sense of security/comfort?

i stopped speeding about 12 years ago and haven't got a ticket since. and i'm no grandma.. Could have to do with not having any tint or loud exhausts etc. I tend to be invisible to cops that way.

Gives me piece of mind. You have to get a really high-end one to be able to save you. For example, I normally speed and hit triple digits almost daily on empty highways at night. A couple times, i detected Ka from the rear and slowed down (i have the arrows). Highway patrol eventually caught up to me but went right by. Every time i get saved, i say the detector paid for itself.

I’m in the same position. The radar detector has saved my *** plenty of times definitely paid for itself. Just sucks when it’s laser they are using because then you’re screwed. I haven’t gotten a ticket since I bought my radar detector, but I don’t usually speed for long periods of time.

I always think about getting the ALP but they are so pricey. They might not be worth the hassle...just pay for the odd times i get hit with laser. Also in Cali, laser jammers are illegal so i'd have to get it installed in Nevada. Since i don't normally speed too much on city streets, the radar detector serves my purpose best since CHP usually uses Ka in their cars.

Yeah I’ve never even thought about getting the ALP, way too pricey. It’s not worth it to me since honestly GHP (I’m in GA) hardly uses their laser since they are too lazy so they just use their Ka and my local police use only Ka.

I live in Virginia where they are illegal but go down to North Carolina monthly to visit friends. It does give you piece of mind even if you aren't speeding. I feel naked without it.

I have the Escort iX. Usually will go off 1-2 miles before I see the police if it's a straight road, maybe 1/2 mile in advance if it's curvy and there's other cars on the road. Saved my *** countless times. But it cost me over $500, still worth it imo. Haven't been pulled over once since I've owned it

I also live in Cali and I want one so bad but yeah not worth the price imo. Not worth the risk of a misdemeanor. Also haven't been lasered while speeding since I've owned a radar detector which reinforces the fact that it's not worth the $1000 price tag

I got my escort from craigslist for $350. Don't know much about the ALP. I know mine has laser detection but no deflection as that's a whole thing.

Yeah they pretty much all have laser detection, the problem is that once your radar tells you that you’re being lasered they have your speed already haha. That’s what the ALP is for it delays their laser from getting a speed long enough for you to slow down.

Yep. That's the only downside. Might need to look into that ALP.
