While we're on the topic, I have a question (completely new to the car audio game):
Does it make sense to add just a sub & amp while retaining the stock headunit and speakers (ML if that makes a difference)? Does this even work? Would I be able to retain all steering wheel/dash/infotainment controls?

^Yep makes perfect sense. it's non-invasive and the stock system is adequate w/ sub and amp. click the link in my sig.

i ordered the same enclosure with a 12" sub a little more than a week ago. it just shipped today so i guess they build them after they are ordered. i emailed them to ask if they also make custom A pillars and speaker brackets for the IS like they sell for the toyota tacoma but they never responded to my email.

my woofer and enclosure arrived today. i haven't had a chance to install it yet but it fits nicely where my first aid kit used to be and it seems like it will pretty stable in that spot. sorry these are so big but i don't know how to post smaller pics. maybe one the mods can shrink them.

the enclosure doesn't cover the cargo net slot but if you use yours regularly you might want to lift the bottom latch that the net attaches to. it is a tight fit trying to reach the bottom latch if you put the subwoofer enclosure in first. i'm using a 12w3v3.
you don't actually screw the enclosure to the panels in the trunk. the back of the enclosure is curved and follows the shape of the trunk perfectly. you just have to maneuver the enclosure into place behind the hinge for the trunk so that the hinge keeps the enclosure from tipping over. i'm going to find out how well it stays put during normal driving tomorrow. i ordered the black finish.
now that i've mounted the sub in i mounted my sub to in the enclosure tonight and realized that the only con that i can think of so far is that the front of the enclosure has just enough surface area to mount a twelve inch sub flush without any gaps that i could notice but a ten inch woofer wouldn't have had any problem doing so.
