RC remote touchpad working in a 3IS
How many of you ever thought of installing the RC350 navigation remote touchpad armrest console in our IS?
I have, ever since the car was released in 2015, I wanted to take one apart and see if i could swap the two.
You can, Sorta......
Well I have finally figured out that the connections are actually different when comparing the Remote Touchpad vs the Remote Joystick.
The RC Remote Touchpad is a 10-pin plug while the IS Remote Joystick is a 16-pin plug
But it still can't be so different that the two couldn't interchange though right? So i studied the wire schematics between the two and found out they have the same amount of wires and i just needed to make a wire harness adapter to be able to plug in the Touchpad to give it a try.
I made a make shift Frankenstein Harness adapter out of scrap connectors and wires terminals I had laying around following the both wiring schematics so that way I do not chop up the cars wiring.
I had it all wired up and gave it a shot, knowing well that there is chance i could do some damage to my stereo (out of warranty now) or the touchpad. Gave it a go and what do you know, it worked!
Thought I'd shared the discovery with the community.
Touchpad work with vibrating hapi-tap feedback as well,
"Menu" and "Home" button works.
Unfortunately the Back button did not work.
Knowing this now, a harness can be made and I think the full center console Armrest can be swapped from a RC to a IS no problem.
The last switch is the ECO/Normal/Sport switch to see if the connection is the same there or not. If it is not a wiring harness can be made for that also probably.
So now you know if you ever thought of retrofitting the RC center console in a IS you know its possible electronics wise.
Who's ready to attempt the full retrofit swap?

If the "experts" at Consumer Reports have it right the joystick style remote controller
is less bad than the flat phone face style touch pad... Thanks to your pioneering efforts
it might be conceivable to retrofit the physical mouse to the pad equipped cars...

Your DIY is on a whole other level... kudos for even trying! Now, as an aside, can you make the driver's side mirror dip when reversing?

Cool but I'd rather see something like RC-F rear control arms on our cars. All the diagrams and photos i analyzed, it should be a direct plug and play swap =) lighter and solid balljoints rather than bushings.
but I can't justify trying it cause i won't be keeping the car.

Bump. I really want to find out if this would work on a non-navi 3is?
