I know this is an old thread, but I have a pertinent question. I am in the hunt for an 2016-2019 IS 300 and would really like to get one with the round joystick controller (not the mouse "puck" or mouse pad). However, this does limit my choices when trying to find that right car.

Is it possible to replace the mouse puck with a round joystick controller for the infotainment system?

I am so close to buying a car but would love to know if this is possible.

TIA

p.s. what does the **** mean? I see it a lot when searching this topic.

Hey, specONE- your video inspired me to perform an entire RC Center Console swap into my IS! Do you still have the pinout diagram for the RC Touchpad side? I ordered harnesses from Alipay to adapt the plugs, now just need your wiring help to make it complete! I cross-posted this on YouTube too. Thanks in advance!

joystick round **** means vehicle is not equipped with factory navigation. Touchpad and Mouse equipped Lexus means navigation. Non navigation control vs Navigation touchpad/Mouse is not interchangable.

Here's some notes of wiring differences

Additionally, I have been contemplating building some of these harnesses for the community so this will be a plug and play solution now that I know a lot more about what connectors are needed and where to source them to make this a robust solid plug and play swap for anybody really trying to do this center console conversion now that used parts are abundant and more cost effective to do this retrofit, thoughts or lost cause?

So how do I match this up? Can’t seem to read the diagram in a way that matches my wiring…

Sorry I totally screwed up putting that doc together (by flipping the two diagrams)
It should make a-little more sense now after I have corrected it.

You likely will still have two leftover wires that pertain to illumination that I will need to dig into in other schematic drawings if the RC touchpad has backlight illumination

Ooooh ok. I’ll take another look at it later tonight then- I’m on my way to work right now. It’s too bad there’s not someone with an early RC that can get us a pic of their plug so we can compare! It IS illuminated, yes.

Found a pic of an RC-side plug, so this helps, just need the other half of my harness adapter to make it work.

The 2018+ RC Navigation touch pad, which is much bigger and more elegant than the older one, is also 10 pin, should be plug in play. Currently swapping from 2015 to 2018 in my RC.

Yes, this is possible and has been done before. There are some panels you will need as well as repinning a connector. I'll try and find the info.

You may find the larger touchpad may NOT be compatible. If I recall correctly, the larger touchpad is aligned with the Wider screen navigation and the two systems are different generation navigation systems.

the pin out is the exact same between the two. I actually got all the components for the 2018 swap, and everything is plug n play. Only thing I need is the blue LVDS cable. On 2018 is a 3 conductor vs previously it’s a single conductor.

Forgot to ask, where can I find one of these gem GVIF cables? The older style are single conductor, the newer one is 3 conductor. I find Navigation wire no 1 and ordered it, but I don't think it is the correct cable. I remember seeing a thread about a custom one? But I cannot find it.

Default Can I swap out the Touchpad?

Hi specONE…you seem to be quite knowledgeable and experienced in this area, so I’m hoping you can help me 🙏🏻

I just got a 2019 ES350 which has the touchpad and I love EVERYTHING about the car EXCEPT the touchpad! 🤪👇🏻

In a car, I REALLY prefer a rotary ****/puck style control, which I noticed was present in the 2018 ES (missed it by ONE year 🤦&#127995.👇🏻

What are the odds I could swap them out if I found the ****/puck for sale somewhere? Or even just ADD the ****/puck in addition to the touchpad (don’t need both cup holders so I’d be willing to sacrifice that space in the center console for a rotary **** controller)?

Thanks in advance for any thoughts, advice, resources. Sorry if I’m “barking up the wrong tree” …I’m new to online forums, but I’ve dreamed of owning a Lexus since I was 9 years old and now that it’s finally happened, I want to learn everything I can 😆

You cant interchange the two. For Lexus vehicles, The **** means non-navigation equipped Stereo system. The touchpad is for Navigation equipped Lexus Vehicles.
