Hi there, does anyone have any experience *ignoring* the part of the IS350 owners manual that says, "Chains won't fit 18" tires" and....just putting them on anyways?
I see some Internet and forum chatter to the effect that, though there are obvious clearance issues, a super low-profile chain like the Peerless Super Z6s should fit and work OK.
But I wanted to see if anyone had actually done this specifically on their IS350 with 18" tires and what happened before I give it a whirl myself and get stuck and/or destroy my wheels and/or drift off the highway.
For what it's worth, I tried chains on my sc400 while living in Vail. I can't say it was worth the trouble. They were a nightmare to put on/take off due to clearance. Truth was, If conditions were too bad for my studded snow tires, then I was bottoming out anyway (snow up to the bumper). Just an opinion, but having a winter set of tires with inexpensive 15 or 16" wheels is a better solution then potentially screwing up your beautiful car and 18" wheels.
I’m wondering this as well since I’m planning a trip up north and want to be prepared. Anyone have an info? Maybe for the people who live in states where it snows can chime in

I only visit the snow maybe 2-3 times per year. Not enough to warrant new wheels imo
There are 2 things that an go wrong. One clearance, scratching or bending the fender. Second damage or major scratches to the rims due to the low profile tires. Just get snow tires for winter..........
