Radar Detectors?
#3
It depends on who's doing the review and what website you're on, so I would take them with a grain of salt. A lot of the new ones are GPS enabled which will memorize and block errant signals received from door sensors at the stores.
Also...the new ones will block active radar from cars (lane assist, blind spot monitors and active cruise control) which are all K-Band.
I've personally been using an Escort detector for the past 6 years and have had ZERO issues. I highly recommend mounting to the mirror with a Blend Mount. They're expensive, but they look great!!!!!

I found the best value in radar detectors for me was the Escort IX. It's included large suction magnetic mount mount was perfect on the plastic area behind the mirror - didn't need a pricey and bulky blend mount, and I used a cheap $10 wiretap off the mirror. A after running the Escort 9500IX for about 8 years (still have that in my other car) it seemed the logical evolution (and is spot on with the radar cruise and blindspot that is all over nowadays). I got my IX for $300 barely used. I really like the GPS radar detectors that lockout signals automatically (and have redlight, etc). If you wanted to spend more in the escort line, redline EX or Max 360.

I've been running a V1 for years, I see no reason to get anything else. Having errors and showing how many cops around are very useful. I was in a small town outside the city at night and it showed 8 cops at one point in every direction. It has held up in the Texas heat with temps getting who knows how hot in my car. I never take the radar down and I've had it over 6 years probably.

Are you all using integrated or windshield detectors? Why the V1 over Escort and K40? I'm posting in every radar detector thread to get some opinions.

I have a v1 in my wrx. Have had it for about 4 years now with no complaints. I used to have a belltronics sti driver, but I sold that to get the v1 simply because I preferred the v1 directional arrows and threat counter. I don’t have one in the lexus, nor would I intend to install one, simply because I just don’t feel that they are as effective as thy once were. Or at least that’s how I feel they are here where I live. Besides, there isn’t much space for me to hide it. On my wrx, it sits above the mirror but just under the sun shade dot matrix thing. Where as in the lexus, that isn’t an option. Too many sensors in the way as is.
Tbh, I find them more annoying now than useful. So I just drive with one eye open.

I've had both the V1 (several models with the most recent one within the past 6 months) and escorts from the x50 to 9500ix and now max360. The V1 detectors require you to "custom program" them in order to get them to stop falsing so much and even then they never shut up. You basically have to turn off x band altogether and reduce K band sensitivity so much that you better hope no cops in your area have it. It becomes a Ka band detector if you program it enough to not give dozens of false alerts per hour.
The 9500ix is a total bargain. It includes GPS technology which is an absolute necessity...much more so than arrows. Arrows are nice little perks but they dont keep you from getting caught. Reliable detection and weeding out false alerts so you actually put on your brakes when your detector goes off are what stops you from getting tickets. With GPS, you will be alerted to speed traps, speed cameras and RL cameras but most importantly your device memorizes false signals from X and K band and stops them. This means you dont have to stare at your detector when it goes off and try and figure out if its a real threat or not. You just brake.

I am currently running the passport 9500ix. I followed the directions from a write up another member posted. It was extrememly helpful, I purchased a smart cord for it and ran the wire from the fuse box up the A pillar and through the ceiling to the rear view mirror. Then used a rear view mirror mount and it looks really clean. I would recommend that and especially the smart cord, so you can quickly mute anything you don't want to hear

I'm currently using the Uniden DFR7. I did a bunch of youtube comparison tests and reviews, with alot of the videos from vortexradar.
That specific one fufilled all my needs at a decent pricepoint.
