Another Windshield post - Sorry
I got my windshield replaced back in July and the safelite tech said there's a huge difference between OEM and OEE glass. First he said was the notable weight difference between OEM and OEE glass. No matter what they say he said size is always an issue even though you may not notice cause no one can get the size just right like OEM. He even said it doesn't even cost you or safelite more to get OEM glass and that the only reason they recommend OEE is cause it's always readily available to install while OEM can take some time to get. Although I did wish I didn't have to pay my $500 deductible. He's been doing windshields with safetlite for over 5 years and said he will always recommend OEM over their generic brand windshields.
Driving my car on i95 moving to FL, two rocks came out of no where and caused about a penny size and a quarter size chip directly in front of the driver side. Safelite said they could repair it, but I would still be able to tell it was there.
Long story short, I got my windshield replaced 2 weeks ago by Safelite. Insurance covered $500, and I had to pay the remaining balance for the Lexus windshield. Of course I want OEM. So they quoted me $613 for OEM windshield, So I paid about 120 out of pocket.

3 out of the 4 cars I had in Florida had their windshields for free. Tampa and Miami. Three difference car insurance companies. It's a Florida state rule.
So FYI
I'm in Japan, so the rules are most likely different...
However, Lexus Japan told me that the windshield is double layer. Until the second inner layer is affected, the windshield would not be replaced.. If the second inner layer is affected, they'll replace it.
This was from Lexus Japan.

$613.26 for the OEM Glass
$152 for Labor
$30 for Install Kit
$80.32 for Tax
Total of $875.58
I paid $500 deductible and insurance paid the remaining balance. Still sighing that I had to pay that deductible but I couldn't live with that crack on my windshield. Oh well hopefully nothing else cracks it. *knocks on wood*
I don't know how to tell the difference in pitting between the two glass.
I had to replace the oem glass because a rock had somehow decided to leave a lasting impression that screamed replace me. I havent really noticed a big difference so far. My vin number seems to be out of place/alignment so theres that, but it's not a big enough deal for me personally.
I personally cannot really tell a difference between before and after the glass though

The AGC windshields are a bit soft like my Pilkington windshield in a few of my BMWs. Had the car for a week a rock was kicked up by a truck and caused a nice size chip. I brought it to get sealed for $40 so the crack wouldn't spread. St Gobain Sekurit makes the best windshields. Never had pits or cracks.
3 years ago - I received a Lexus windshield and paid $15 out of pocket with State Farm covering the rest. Back then, there weren't too many replacement windshields for the IS - State Farm only had Safelite or Lexus glass. GL
