Default TPMS question....

Recently bought a new set of wheels and tires along with new tpms. Says I need to have the new tpms set with a scanner, where would I go to have this done? And do they charge for this?

Personally never heard of that, I'd use the oem tpms. But that's just me

Dealer can do it (obviously). Probably charge for it.

Local tire shop should have the tool to read the sensor codes without dismounting the tires.
You will need the codes programmed into the vehicle. They may have the laptop with software, but it may be a long shot.
Dealer can program the codes for you.

I run two sets of wheels/tires/tpms and use the Ateq quickset tool to switch between the two.

Amazon Amazon

We have two cars, each with two sets of rims - it has already paid for itself.

I have this tool also but when putting on summer wheels the display on the dash only shows psi values 50% of the time. Might look into getting programmable ones

Mine show 100% of the time, why do yours only show 50% of the time.

Maybe you can clarify what 50% of the time means?
Does that mean on some trips the pressures don't show? In which case the TPMS light should be on and codes set.
Or does that mean it takes a minutes before they show each time you start the car? Which is normal.

Programmable ones of what? The sensors?

The sensors need to be woken up after they are installed. The tire shop should have the tool to wake them up after they are installed, and potentially the tool to also program them.

Yes your statement is correct. I've driven 100 miles and no reading on the dash and sometimes drive 5 miles and they show up. Never had a light. You can get programmable sensors. As long as you know the factory codes(which I do) they can be programmed into the new ones so the car doesn't know which set of wheels are on the car. When I have the stock wheels on the reading is almost instantly on
