Heard back from the dealer yesterday. They disconnected the battery (as i did) thinking it would solve the problem (because you cant trust customers, i can accept that) and it took almost an hour just to get to the first restart screen (like i told them it would) and then it began the 2 screen restart loop again. They do not seem to have a code that will force initiate at the VERY beginning so they have no way to update the software since it fails on boot up before they can reach that screen. They think i am going to need a new unit and am 3k miles out of warranty (53k) and are trying to talk to corporate today to get it good willed since i am so close to warranty and they just update the firmware a week before it happened (at my cost since this has been a fear of mine all along). I am gutted, i didn't by an M3 or Golf R since i wanted something to not worry about and am now starring down the potential VERY expensive repair thats not due to a component failure but just bad code. Every time i park i shut everything down so the underpowered infotainment doesn't have to try to start everything at once and it STILL bricks. Depending on what i hear today there may be a new "What Now?" thread becuase i am not confident that even if i pay it isnt just going to happen again since its code not component.
Being that close to the end of your warranty, I see no reason why they should not Goodwill the entire repair.
If at any time you mentioned this happening before the warranty expired and it was recorded on a work order, I would use that as leverage that the problem was noted before the warranty expired, and therefore should be covered.
Hopefully they will goodwill the replacement. That extra 3,000 miles should have no bearing on the infotainment system. I'm sure there are records somewhere at corporate regarding having to replace radio units.
I had minet replaced because of navigation reboots less than a year after I bought the car. Mine never got stuck in a loop but would randomly reboot. The part alone is $4600 online.
I recently purchased an extended warranty in case I have future electronic gremlins, because I plan on keeping the car for a few more years.
Finally heard back over the weekend. Needs a whole new stereo (no part numbers given) for $1,450. Given my previous good wills from left (door card and center console leather shrunk and split) they will not fully cover it but will cover $800 so itll be a little under $700 out of pocket after tax.
My newest 1rst world problem is if i am comfortable driving in a car im afraid to put my elbows on its surfaces becuase they split and affraid to listen to the radio or pair my phone because it might crash and i end up with another $1600 bill.
Sounds like you're not happy with the car. I wouldn't be either. Time to get something more reliable
All joking aside, this WAS suppose to be the reliable compromise of more compliant then an older ISF and more reliable then a used M3 or new GTI. Now ive got a reliable drive train with other bits that i just dont trust. Slightly better then the rx8 that could (and did) have apex seal failure at any moment since the lexus isnt going to leave me stranded, but i have 0 confidence that it will be as reliable as my wifes run of Acuras. BUT Honda doesnt have anything rwd and sedan so option are pretty limited. Not to mention that this has depreciated to around $27k so options are even less. Thinking friday for reliable fun around $27k was new civic si manual, new base wrx manual, used chevy ss manual, slightly older cayman S manual. I cant think of anything else that would fall under both proven reliable and fun.
I have an 18yr old lx470 with 160k miles that i put android auto in and the leather is great. Currently it is the preferred option and the vehicle i have the most faith in.

It sucks that you are having so many issues. My 2015 IS350 has 35k miles and feels like the day I got it. I would have faith that the head unit doesn't break again as yours is the only one i've heard about here in the forums. I say give the old girl one more chance
