Default Carbon Build Up

Lately I've been noticing at idle, my car will slightly shake and the rpm needle dances a little. I thought it was the spark plugs but a shop told me it's most likely carbon build up in the valves. They wanted $100 for the cleaning vs Lexus wanted $600 lol..
My question is should I use something like Sea Foam or Royal Purple Max Clean? Or just fork up the money and have it cleaned out?

How much mileage on your 250?
A throttle body cleaning and adding some fuel injector cleaner to the tank is a good and inexpensive first step.
The Sea foam can be plan B or C.

i'm hoping mine don't have this problem until much later in their lifespans if they have it at all. on the upside, there hasn't been much talk about carbon buildup on the 3IS forums, so i'm not terribly worried. the 2IS had it bad between 200t and early 2010. there hasn't been much talk about carbon buildup on the 2IS forum either on 250s build in the latter portion of 2010 through 2013.

I would go with the throttle body cleaning and injector flush in the tank for now.
After a couple full tanks with injector cleaner, see how it's performing then.
You might be surprised.

I thought it was fixed in our gen? I noticed something similar too. Might add some fuel injector cleaner to see if that helps.

My cousin has a 2009 IS 250. Never had problems with carbon build-up but she's always used Top Tier fuel. I am a firm believer that poor quality gas contributes to this problem. Granted, there have been less complaints about carbon build up in Canada and I believe Lexus Canada still does not have a TSB for the last gen IS.

you are 100% right use top tier gas Supreme Super gas you won't experience Carbon buildup, my friend has 2009 other friend has, never complaint about carbon buildup.

What sanuke said is true also, pour a ton of gas injector in your gas tank every gas fill, that would help

last thing, install an oil catch can too, i just installed a Catch can on my IS350 AWD Fsport.

Is the oil catch can something you have to clean out every so often? Or once you install it, you're set?

Depending on which one you get, it will either have a drain plug or the body will unscrew allowing you to empty it.
Best practice is to empty every time you do an oil change.
It really is as easy as it sounds. The hardest part is probably finding a place to mount it in the engine compartment.
