Buy now or wait for 2017
I'm driving a 16 year old car right now -- my wife's old car. We recently moved out of a city and into the suburbs.
I'm really liking the IS.
Should I get it now -- at a decent discount -- let's say I can get over 7k off msrp right now -- 5k+ discount plus 2k rebate (assuming rebate stays into july)
Or keep driving the old car and wait for the 2017 model to be out.
Is it worth waiting for it?
I feel like the 2016 ES is a big improvement over the 2015 exterior -- If the IS has a similar improvement, that would be great.
Do dealers often discount the new model right away? If I'm unable to get a decent discount on it, it'll end up being a costly wait.

I'm waiting for the 2017 to come out mainly because i do like the refresh a lot, and it comes with lexus safety system+ which is a great option, also the 10 inch nav screen will be a big plus. dealers probably will not discount 2017's until they have cleared out 2016's. it also really depends on what you like, if you prefer the pre facelift version, then try and find a loaded one. If you are looking into the luxury IS and not the f sport, the 2017 seems to look way more luxurious then it is now. the f sport version has just grown to be much more aggressive with the spindle grill and lights. there are also 2 new exterior colors for 2017. if i were you i would go for the 2017 just because it will be the latest and greatest IS.

I bought 2 weeks ago rather than wait. Big discounts and lease deals are available on the 2016 and pics of the 2017 seemed a bit radical for my tastes.
The reasons to wait would be for the self driving and auto safety features which will be standard, slightly upgraded interior, or you like the new styling. However, IMHO those self-driving features will substantially improve over the next 3-5 years so I protected the downside risk of the 2016 with a 3 yr lease and of course the large discounts.

I just leased a 2016 F Sport last month. I mean, it's a 3 year lease so I'm not losing much. The car is amazing today. Why wait? But are you buying or leasing? I guess that's the better question.

Here's what I like the most about '17 IS:
Triple beam headlights
Bigger display screen
I assume that I can fit my phone into the cup holder
And the rear bumper has larger open end to fit quad tip exhaust set up
If you decide to get '17 model, you probably won't get a big discount from the dealership for sure.

Only you can answer that question. If you know deep down you want the latest model then wait for the 2017s to hit the dealerships. I see too many people settle for less only to spend more money to get what they really want.
If you will will be fine with the 2016 then go for it now while you can get the color and options you want. Good luck.

We're actually kinda giving those IS200ts away right now. Also remember the rebates do not discount the price of the car. They are added as a down payment. So with the 1,800 rebate and a 1,000 down it will be a total of 2800 down on contract.
