Sliding Dash - Has anyone faced a problem?
I've a 2015 IS350 F-Sport with the "sliding" dashboard. Just curious to know if anyone has faced any issues (mechanical or otherwise) with the sliding dashboard.
It is a moving part with a small motor, etc. And Lexus has made it such that it returns to the middle when you switch off the engine. So, for someone like me, who likes the dial on the right, that means a lot of moving side-to-side. Over a 10-year ownership period, I expect this will fail at some point in time.
Wonder how much it would cost for a fix if this should break down.

I've always thought about this breaking lol.
I mainly slide it open at night. That way I can have my main display off and just look at everything on the dash. Other than that, I just leave it in the center, or if I'm showing people the car, one of the first things I show them is the sliding dash lol.

So I'm not the only one thinking about when that thing breaks... it'll probably be about $3k in parts and labor. In the parts catalog it's a whole assembly not just the motor.
Trade the car in if it breaks. That's my plan.

If Lexus is listening and gets our concern they should release a firmware update that leaves the dash in whatever position the driver last moved it to. And not have it 're-center' every time the engine is turned off.
If it breaks during warranty we're covered. But anytime after that a $3-$4K bill and quite a hole in the wallet...

I wouldn't really expect this to fail at any higher rate than things like power door lock actuators, power window motors/gears, ventilation motors, etc. With that said, agreed it'll be expensive to fix if it ever does fail.
It wouldn't be as expensive to fix Audi Virtual Cockpit.

If the motor seizes, you have an equal chance it will be stuck to the right where you want it.
Realistically though, in several years from now, there's always the used parts market or scrap yard to get it for much cheaper if it ever does break.
And on that note, three years the 3IS has been out now and I have not heard of or come across a single owner report the failure in this forum to date.
