Default IS350. First problem after 2 months and 2000kms

Got in the car today, first cold day of the year , minus 8C. Start the car and the engine light comes on. Trac locks off too.
I went straight to the dealer , they took it in right away. After about a half hour the technician comes up to tell me that the mass airflow sensor is no good. He has ordered a new one. Apparently the new version has a different part number which indicates that it may have been problematic. He cleared the light and it stayed off all day. Part should be here in a couple of days.

Not a huge deal but it's a bit annoying. My last IS never had even the slightest issue.

A new part number does NOT indicate that it may have been problematic. A part number will change if they changed vendors for whatever reason. Could it be because of a failure rate? Possibly. But I would say most likely its because another vendor won the contract by underpricing the existing vendor.

If it had been problematic, there is a good chance there would have been a TSB.

And MAF sensors go bad just like any electrical/mechanical component. There is always an engineered expectation of failure rate, in which a component has a certain % of failures and considered acceptable. You simply ended up on that %.

This isn't a big deal at all.
