Default 2014 IS 350 Direct Injection Engine?

Does the 2014 IS 350 AWD F Sport have a Direct Injection engine?

Will engine performance diminish in time due to carbon build-up?

If so, any way to prevent same?

Thanks!

It is a dual injected engine. The primary injectors are direct but it also has secondary port injectors. Those secondary injectors keep the carbon from building up on the back of valves.

this one one of if not the main reason why i chose this car over a 335 of 535. Im getting lazy and only want to change fluids and brakes for the next ten years in my driveway.

If you're interested, attached is some technical information regarding the D4-S dual injection system.

It's a direct and port injection engine - it has 12 injectors so you don't have to worry about carbon buildup

The video below explain it (start at 10:53):

Nice review, but the mechanic is a big jerk and somewhat ignorant, would never bring my car to him for service.

Same thoughts here. The good thing is people like him make me want to buy the car (again) just for spite.

Wow; if this design prevents carbon buildup, why doesn't BMW use same?

Is there some downside?

BMW doesn't as they are only direct injection. An engine can still develop carbon buildup with direct injection. You need both port and direct injection to resolve the carbon buildup issue.

The port injection was a big selling point for me as well. I have a VW yet that needs a $800 service every 60,000 or so to clean the intake valves....
