Anybody have any tips? Materials? How-to suggestions?
Did you do it yourselves and, if not, what did you pay?
Right now Pepboys has a sale 2 for $12 plastidip, lots of painters tape. My advice is to masked up the car really good, no matter how careful u are, u always get overspray. I spent a lot of time cleaning overspray because i was too lazy to cover up the surrounding areas.
Trying to see how blacking out the trim around the grill and windows would look.
I have personally assisted three buddies in the past with plasti-dipping their wheels, trim, lettering, etc. & strongly advise against it. Not only is it a flat matte look (even with a glossifier), but it peels off shortly after its applied. I'm having a professional car wrap company chrome delete my vehicle tomorrow so I'll post some pictures Sunday when it's complete. They use a plastic "paint matching" film which perfectly forms over each individual piece. Of course it's not nearly as cheap as a six dollar can of spray dip. All three friends who did plasti-dip have since used this company after the fact. Without tenting the taillights, I got an estimate for $300 w/ a two year warranty.
I got the L wrapped over to complete the chrome delete and plasti dipped the back emblems (leaving the L emblem filled in to match). Decided to just get the emblem wrapped over instead of tinting or replacing the emblem for convenience of already getting the chrome wrapped.
