Does anyone else have the horrific problem of brake dust in the fronts? My front rims literally turn brown within a week of washing them.. While my rears are perfect.. Any way to reduce this?

 

Excessive amounts of brake dust is usually a result of a softer rotor paired with an abrasive, semi-metallic pad. You can try to change the compound of the pad to Ceramic if its available for your car.

 

I noticed that on many IS I see including mine, the fronts are always dirty... I wipe them down every 150 miles aside from a car wash.

 

Yeah it sucks ***. Get ceramic when it's time to change them. In the mean time use Carpro hydro 2 sealant to help with the washing. Brake dust won't stick on it as much. I rinse or use a waterless wash on them in between washes.

 

I came from a BMW 328i and that front brake dust was horrible, much worse than my IS 250. When it was time to change brakes on the BMW, I went with Akebono ceramic pads and there was night and day difference in brake dust. The wheels stay clean significantly longer than the oem pads that BMW used. When it's time to change the pads on my IS 250, I'm going with Akebono ceramic pads again; highly recommended.

 

U can run non f-sport pads and it'll be less dust. I plan on getting a set when its time to switch pads.

 

The best possible solution would be to use different set of pads. Brake dust in this car is a pain, I clean my rims more often than the car itself.

 

Thinking about getting EBC Red Stuff for my car since its almost time to replace the pads/rotors.

 

i had that issue until i switched to stoptech rotors/pads!! no more crazy amounts of brake dust!!

 

Thanks for that, and everybody else for their input, most likely will be changing them when its time to ceramic.. Unless the brake dust just gets the best of me and I end up getting them earlier

We've had our IS for 800 miles and it's already crazy how much the fronts dust.

 

Curious who has swapped out to another brand, and the results the have seen from both a dusting and performance perspective. I do like the strong stopping power with the stock setup, but this dust is very annoying. Ceramics can dust too, so wondering if we have people with real experiences.

 

I'm tired of it, too, after just 1,200 miles. Is the non-F Sport pad a direct replacement?

 

Yes they will fit right in. Also consider the Akebono ceramic pads. I had them on my previous IS and they were even cleaner than my current non-fsport pads.
