I intend on changing the oil on my wife's 2014 IS250 at 5K intervals, rather than the suggested 10K due to driving conditions on her daily/weekend commute.

Have any of you changed the oil on your 3rd gen sedans yourselves? Which filter/oil combo did you go with? Also, where did you purchase the filter wrench?

 

I've done mine three times. (2014 350) Easy as pie. Up on ramps. Three 10mm hex head screws remove the oil filter cover. Toyota filter wrench (I don't mess with the housing end drain fiddly deal). Drain plug is obvious. Toyota filter kit comes with a crush washer for the drain plug and a big O ring for the filter cannister. This would be a 10 minute job tops except you have to let the oil drain for 30 or more. I use Mobil 1 0W-20 per Lexus/Toyota specs. About 6.25 quarts. Fun DIY, do it!

 

since my dealered offered me free car washes and oil changes for the life of the vehicle i will be due for my first one at 5k miles. Not sure what the details are but if the intervals are every 5k miles they must be using synthetic and and for filter i would assume oem. will have to see.

 

OEM intervals are every 10k and dealership will perform them as such given they do in fact use synthetic

Where did you find ramps "shallow" enough so that they don't hit the bumper before the wheels?

 

I actually had the ramps custom made (my design) by a local metal shop for my low vehicles (Porsche/TT/6 Series BMW). The guy did them as a moonlight job, $100. They are 6' long and give me about 10" of rise and weight about 40+ lbs each. I've had them 15 years or so, saved me many hundreds of dollars!
