Useless traffic report!
Glad I'm not the only one who's noticed this. The Lexus traffic is wrong all the time! In contrast, Google Maps is almost always accurate.
I'll never understand why our $2k built-in nav systems suck so bad compared to $200 smart phones.

Noticed it here too. I feel like the whole infotainment system needs an upgrade. It was great back in 2006, but now in 2015 the Germans are doing better.
Has anyone noticed the half a second lag when changing radio channels? Sucks that this problem didn't occur on previous IS's. My mother 2007 RX changes channels instantly.

Traffic signal comes from HD radio. I don't find it useful during rush hour but it's very accurate during weekend. I assumed traffic info from XM satellites are more accurate with a cost.
At least in LA it doesn't help that's it's missing data for several connecting freeways, not to mention little to no street data. I stopped using it after the first few weeks and went back to my phone.
I never thought I'd get a car without a GPS, but phones have come so far that in my last few cars I feel like I'm just wasting the money.

I think the traffic comes from xm radio which sucks. I had it in my Infiniti and Acura and it sucked then. We have a Honda with HD traffic and it is spot on 95% of the time.

I actually find it works reasonably well for me. Not always perfect, but generally pretty accurate.
I have the XM traffic on my RX. I suspect it varies greatly by region, but I'd rate it decent, and slightly behind what I get on the HD signal in my IS.
No, it's from HD Radio. As I recall, the IS was the first car to use HD Radio for traffic, and Honda and others are now using it too.

I find the traffic info pretty accurate for the freeways around Seattle (5, 405, 90), but the secondary highways...not so much.
Not sure where I saw it, but I read that the traffic data comes from Clear Channel's Total Traffic product.

indeed, it only worked when there is heavy traffic like rush hours.
I assume that the real time traffic functions are relying on all the recent years lexus cars that are running on the road ?
