Default Check AWD System Warning Message

Today I received a “CHECK AWD SYSTEM” warning message.

Has anyone ever seen anything like this before?

Car seems to be driving okay.

Just scheduled a service appointment for tomorrow if this doesn't resolve itself.

Any insight is appreciated.

Thanks.

Please also let me know if there is any way to "reset" this message, if a fluke, to see if it returns, so I need not make the trip to the dealer and deal with the associated back and forth (emptying my car, getting into a loaner, etc.).

Thanks again!

There are several things that can trigger this.

-Low tires in the front or back making different tire diameters front to rear (you'll also get the TPMS light)
-New wheel/tire package that is not running the same diameters
-Bad abs, wheel speed, pressure, etc sensor
-believe it or not the car battery going dead can also cause this (you should notice hard cranking)
-differential failure

If it came from low tires it would go away after fixing the pressure and recycling the ignition. If it stays, you need to take it in to the dealer.

Okay; great; so high probability this is related to a spare I have installed at this time.

Weird thing is that it's been on the car for about two weeks now without issue.

I'll reinstall the original rim and tire and hope the message clears!

Aside from cycling the ignition, anything else to aid the "reset"?

Thanks!

Bingo.

I suppose you could disconnect the battery for a few minutes to see if that triggers a soft reset. Otherwise it will go away after however many recycles of the ignition and however many data points it is programmed to need to be back to normal for before it goes off. Some lights will stay on even when the condition returns to normal but I dont think this is one of them.

Reinstallation of the original rim worked.

No more message.

Thanks, bhvrdr!
