Default Detailing and 22PLE

I have been researching on different coatings such as CQuartz, OptiCoat, and 22PLE. I called around in south Florida and the cost is from $600 to $1000 just for the coating on the paint. Window and wheel coating is extra and not all detailers offer the product I preferred. After reading reviews from different forums and seeing the results from

https://www.clublexus.com/forums/aut...rotection.html

and

https://www.clublexus.com/forums/aut...lass-coat.html

I was sold on 22PLE. I decided to perform this detailing myself in order to apply other items to the car. Before this I had no prior experience in detailing besides washing and drying my cars. I tested the whole detailing process on my 2010 Yaris before performing it on my IS. In the Yaris I used M105 and different pads since it needed more correction and had to polish the windows. The IS is three months old and has 2800 miles on it.

I started working on the car Friday after work and was able to complete the detailing project by Sunday afternoon. Sorry for the crappy pics. Since it stopped raining I will take pics sometime this week.

I also want to thank Zach McGovern for his guidance in this forum.

Process:
o ONR the car and dry
o Clay the car and windows
o Inspect Paint (Paint is almost perfect. Had one spot on the hood that needed minor correction)
o Tape the lights and moldings
o Polish car except hood with SF4500 with LC Crimson pad
o Polish hood with M205 with LC orange pad and after with SF4500/ LC Crimson pad
o IPA wipe down
o Inspect Paint again
o applied 22PLE
o applied GTechniq G1 (3X windshield and 1x all around)
o remove each wheel
o clay
o clean the brake calipers and wheel well
o IPA wipe down
o 22PLE wheel and caliper (this will help with the brake dust)
o Tire dressing (2 coats 10 mins apart)
o Only thing I forgot is apply Opti-Bond on the wheel well

Product used:
o Optimum No Rinse Wash & Shine (ONR), Use this to wash the car and use as clay lube
o Chemical Guys MIC_702_01 - Waffle Weave Huge SUV Microfiber Drying Towel (recommend buying something smaller)
o Clay Magic Fine Grade Clay Bar (more than half left)
o Chemical Guys MIC_506_12 - Professional Grade Premium Microfiber Towels X 12 (rip out the tags, used for washing car, wipe off polish, wipe off 22ple, threw away the ones used for wiping down 22PLE)
o 2” painters tape
o Porter Cable 7424XP Dual Action polisher
o Menzerna Micro Polish SF 4500
o Meguiar’s M205
o Lake Country 5.5" 2XCrimson
o Lake Country 5.5" 1XOrange
o Meguiar's Pad Conditioner Brush (clean the pad after each panel)
o 70% Isopropyl Alcohol diluted down to 25% as IPA solution
o ZEP 32 oz. Professional Sprayer
o 22ple VX1 Pro Glass Coating - 50 ml (have a little less than half after Yaris and IS)
o CarPro Cquartz Applicator
o PEC-PAD Lint Free Wipes 4"x4" (use this with the applicator to reduce waste of 22PLE and ease of applying around curves )
o 22ple VM1 Rim and Metal Coating - 20 ml (have a little more than half left)
o Optimum Opti-Bond Tire Gel
o Tuf Shine Applicator Sponge
o Tuf Shine Tire Brush
o DI Brushes Boar's Hair Detailing Brush - 1"
o DI Brushes EZ Detail Brush - Full Size
o DI Brushes Vent and Dash Boar's Hair Detailing Brush
o DI Brushes Wheel Woolies - 1"
o Gtechniq G1 ClearVision Smart Glass - 15 ml (regret not buying the larger bottle. 15ml is only good for one car)

Purchased for the future:
o Connolly Hide Care Leather Conditioner
o Connolly Leather Cleaner

I am extremely happy with the results. The learning curve is quick, but it takes time and patience. If you don’t have both I recommend paying someone to do it.
