problem with parking
Hi guys
I ve now owned tge 250 non f sport for several months now. I really love my car. It drives wonderfully. The v6 sounds nice. And its really gorgeous. But one thing does bug me. It doesnt feel agile when I park it.
My last car was the is200. My new car is much bigger compare to it, and it shows when I m parking. I am not the best driver, but with my last car I always parked with lots of confidence. And as I live in asia the average parking spots are tiny. But I could pretty much park any space in one go. But now I always move the car back and forth when parking, looking and feeling rather stupid. I know its my fault probably. But I wonder if any of u feel the same?

No need, it's better to park safely than worry about how others think of you and hit a pole or curb by accident. I think the same way as you do and especially when people my age is standing around looking. Now to think of it, do not let the anxiety of how stranger's judge you causes you to lose your mind and hit something while parking your car. It can happen and it almost did for me.
Because of the streamlined shape of the windows, it is harder to know where the corners of the car are.
A lot of modern cars are like this.
However an advantage og the new IS is the turning circle radius. This makes you able to get inn to small spaces if you use a techniche of combining the back up camera and mirrors, and turn over fully when you are about 40 cm in front of the space you want to get in to.
I assume it is the paralell parking you have an issue with?
The back up camera also has a nice feature with lines that move according to where you turn your stering wheel. This is very helpful. It can be turned on in the settings menu.

I have the fsport with backup camera, but I have not seen the lines move while I turn the steering wheel. Does the US models have this too? If so, how do I turn this on?
Why would you need the car to be agile when you park it? Agility typically refers to the car's sporty characteristics and abilities to move from one direction to another while in moderate to quick motion/speed. I wouldn't put the word agility with parking in the same sentence, ever.
Yeah, the lines don't move. It just stays a grid. I don't think it's a setting that you can change. I base this on the fact that backup cameras with lines that curve are set that way by default (Honda Accord, for example). I will have a look at the owner's manual, though.

The base 250 is clumsy at low speeds and when pulling or backing into a parking space. I noticed it the first week I owned it. Here's why. First off the leather Lexus chose for the steering wheel is too slippery. Second of all the steering is too heavy (hard to turn at low speeds) and the wheel isn't eager to return to center quickly. All makes for awkward, clumsy handling at low speeds. Also note when pulling out of a parking space you actually have to help the wheel return to center as it's so slow to do so.

Green, yeelow red that indicate distance.
And a set of ble ones that turns together with the steering whel, that indicates where the car will end up.
Both these lines can be turned on and off.
At lest my F-sport has them. Believe all edm and jdm cars have them, but not sure about usdm cars.
its due to how the rear window and support pillars are shaped.. you get used to it sooner or later, but still annoying bc you do lose a lot of visibility.
There are two set of lines on the back up cam.

Just want to say thanks for replying everyone.
FinalLpeace, i think you are absolutely right. Nothing worst than hitting something or worst, someone while parking your car.
