I have DWS on the rear on my IS350. they are silent, DOT is 2010. the fronts are bridgestone el400s. they are LOUD and DOT 2012. bridgestones are junk. so far I am very satisfied with the conti's in terms of ride quality and NVH. much better than the summer re050s they replaced.

Can anyone recommend some good winter tires? I'd like to buy my winter tires this summer prior to winter arriving. I get extreme temperatures (-45 C, -49 Fahrenheit at times), so all seasons won't cut it.

so, from what i gather, the tires located here - http://www.tirerack.com/tires/survey...ay.jsp?type=GT - are some of the best grand touring tires that would provide for the quietest, smoothest, softest ride.

that said, the scores aren't very impressive with michelin's primacy hps only gaining relatively modest ratings and it is the highest rated score there.

any other suggestions for ultra grand touring tires available in the US? i can't think of any others.

Don't know what is avalible in the US, but when I worked as a technician at mercedes I got to drive a lot of same model cars with different tyres. I was suprised by two low budget brands.
Both vredestein ultrack sesanta and hankook (not quite sure which tire) was dead silent on the old E-class.

However I also found that michelin was the best all round preformer on the mercs. Different cars can be very different to drive with the same tire, so it is not certain that any of these tyres will preform well on the lexus IS.

thanks! i don't think vredesteins are available in the US, although hankooks and michelins sure are. i had hankooks on my old IS, and the ride was softer but i attributed that more to the suspension than the tire.

michelins might be worth looking into. hm. choices, choices, choices.

edit: vredesteins are available in the US. imagine that. i've seen them frequently in the EU although rarely in the US.

Let me know what tyre you decide to go for, and how it preforms on the IS. Not a big fan of the turanzas myself, so I'll might change them next season.

Bridgestone Blizzaks would be the best winter tires for winter traction. However, they turn to mush on dry and wam days during the winter.

I personally use Michelin Pilot Alpin PA3 tires as they are winter tires/performance. They do a decent job in snow and on ice. They don't grip in the winter as well as the Blizzaks, but they offer better balance between dry/winter traction. However, if you have RWD, I would recommend you only go with Blizzaks.

Awesome, thank you. I think I'll look into the Blizzaks before winter comes around. Are you in Edmonton or Calgary?

Lucky you, I love Calgary. I may be going down for the Stampede. Much better than Deadmonton.

If you live in an area that doesn't get the snow plowed quickly or have frequent snow falls, i'd go with the WS60/70 snow tires.
Where i am, our snow gets cleaned quite quickly so i opted for the LM60 since it is better when the roads are relatively clean.

i heard treadwear on the michellins are a bit worst, but tireshops around here tends to carry the blizzaks cheaper anyways, so i've never tried the michelins.
