Can you get your windows tinted during the Polar Vortex?
I'm taking delivery on my 2014 IS350 AWD Obsidian/Rioja w/ F Sport Exhaust tomorrow (woo hoo!!) and the first order of business will be getting the windows tinted.
With the polar vortex keeping the temps sub-freezing here in NJ, I'm wondering if I should wait until the weather gets a little warmer before I have the tint installed. I'd go to a reputable shop with heated garages for sure, but I'm not sure if letting the film cure in cold temps will cause any issues?
I am in ct so I know what you mean. The issue is that they use water to apply the film and even after they install it regardless if it was installed in a heated garage there is still a thin layer of water between the film and window for a few days. What happens is the water freezes and looks like there is frost on the window. It will not damage nor hurt the tint. My buddy owns a tint and detail shop he's doing 3-5 cars a day with tint in this weather. The best thing is to leave the car Running with defrost on blast for a while to let heat help dry everything out. Or see if you can car it in a buddy's garage

It will simply take longer (a lot longer) for the tint to dry. Leaving the car sit in the sun, even it is cold helps. You just can't use your windows until it is dried. I personally felt the clear bra was more time sensitive and got that completed first.
Had mine done January '13 and the tint is fine.Just took longer to dry.In the sun during the day and in attached garage at night.
The dark tint does work well with the sun to help dry even if very cold.
