I'm debating weather or not to just do a muffler delete and get some nice sound or just buy a complete exhaust system. Has anyone done muffler delete on thier IS what are you guys thinking of this matter? I doubt I would feel any real power coming from an exhaust system

 

Someone did a muffler delete, sounds great if you ask me...
But I still don't trust it. Plus the guy who did it never gave any more info on this so it's a bit sketchy.

 

there is still a center resonator so it wont be straight pipe loud.

Muffler deletes are really depending on your tolerance of cabin noise. I wouldn't mind a muffler delete if i do regular short commutes but it can get quite annoying on long drives. Loud cabin noise makes me sleepy on the road

I would wait to see what is going to be available or go magnaflow mufflers and a local muffler shop.

 

So is this essentially just removing the mufflers at the back? I thought he removed the center ones. I would actually rather have some aftermarket mufflers vs. no muffler.

 

Would deleting the center muffler increase or decrease mpg's? I understand the setup would become more 'free flow', but isn't a certain amount of 'back pressure' important?

I've always wondered this and maybe someone with some insight can chime in.

The center muffler is the resonator. Look up resonator deletes as its a popular mod. it doesnt have any increased or decreased MPG at all. NA engines need a little back pressure to perform optimally. If i can find a sizing chart, there is a science to exhaust pipe size to engine size. I think there is a rule to not use 3" exhaust on NA eninges.

Resonator is the center muffler!
