Registration Dilemma: CA versus NV
I am active duty military. Resident of Nevada but planning to buy the IS350 F-Sport in California as I am currently living and working in SoCal.
If I register my car in CA, annual registration will be $98 under the military out-of-state clause. But in doing so I won't be able to tint the driver and passenger windows. In addition, I'll have to hang a license plate over the grille (which I'd hate to do)
But if I register in NV, my registration for the first year will be roughly $1000 (depreciates slowly every year thereafter). However, I will be able to tint all my windows and won't have to hang a license plate in the front.
$98 versus $1000. What should I do? It seems like $98 is the obvious choice but I am in love with the front grille and having all my windows tinted would make the car even more aggressive

Is this normal price for new car registration? I special ordered IS this month. I'm a military spouse and also plan to register in Nevada, just moved here in April from Texas. I had no idea that it would cost that much. Suggestions?

I live in Vegas. I have the '14 IS250 fsport and I paid $600+ for registration. And my gf has the 350 fsport and she paid $700+ on registration. I never understood why nevada car registration fees are so high

I agree as far as NV registration fees being so high! i guess it's because we don't pay state taxes LOL.
Here is a fee calculator estimator for Nevada specifically: https://dmvapp.nv.gov/DMV/Applicatio...tioninput.aspx
I typed in 2014 and $48,000 in the search fields and an estimate of $873 popped up....

Been tinting for years no problem. Grimmspeed license relocation kit. I have gotten compliments on how cool it looks. Would prefer to go bare but this works great, http://www.grimmspeed.com/catalog/pr...roducts_id=237

Cuz you have no state taxes and the state needs moolah someway, somehow. Oregon does the same thing especially to small businesses. My taxes actually went down in CA . The big seduction/lie is no state purchase taxes but when you break down how much you really buy that is taxable vs. the stupid and high taxes Oregon puts on everything else -- CA is lower.

Then maybe is should register in Texas..which I considered anyway. I like the Texas personalized black/white plates better than the personalized Nevada plates. But I think NV allows darker tint, need to verify.

I moved from Texas to Nevada in April. Because my wife is military I can register new vehicle in Texas. Just checked and registration in Texas would be no more than $75 vs $900+ in Nevada. Seems like a no brainer for me to register in Texas.
@eyeball I understand the dilemma regarding tint and license plate which some would consider minor. If you are into details then it isn't minor. If money is not an issue then I would register in Nevada. If it is an issue.....damn

IMO, I'd register it in Cali, regardless of where your car is registered. If its found driving in California, you'll get a fix it ticket for front tint and no plates regardless.
No front plate is a fairly cheap fix it ticket and easy to "fix". I have family members living in SoCal (San Diego) and all of their cars have tint in the front and never had any problems with the police, just don't get it too dark.
