I'm thinking 35 of 50 prime on FF. lets go with 50. Sigma 50 1.4? I'm probably way off base.

Thanks. 35/1.4 @ 2.2 on FF. I like this shot, but hate it for the reason that it makes the headlights seem way too small for the car. They are, in fact, but the other styling cues tend to make them look larger, but in this shot they just look weird to me.

That photo has good 3D pop for a 35. thats why i was thinking 50. but couldn't rule out the 35 either. I didn't even notice the headlights as being small. You'd hate the pre facelift lights which are even smaller. lol. I wish the tail lights were slimmer from the side. every time i see my car from the side, the tail lights look dated as they're too "fat" from the side view. the back is fine though. if you stare at most cars though, you can usually nitpick something. i haven't shot cars in a while. thanks for posting the inspiration!

I think it's the combination of f2.2 and the distance from the background. I shot it at 1.4/2.2/3.5/5.6, but liked the 2.2 the best.

Yeah, the rear tails from the side are pretty big, but the styling of them makes up for it. I'll never get used to the front of this car, but it'll work for the lease period. I'm pretty hard to please when it comes to styling, so I just stare at my Lotus most of the time haha.

We think alike shooting wise. I was going to say the only nitpick was the very back of your car was out of focus (like just the tail light), but if you stopped down a bit more just to get that last 3% in sharp focus, you'd lose separation of the background. of course you could focus stack and combine exposures but too much work. The way you got it now is just right.

Yeah, you're spot on. I focus stack a lot, but sometimes it starts to make things look a bit unnatural. I love the background to be super soft, so I used to shoot everything at f2 and lay an f8 shot over the top, but it took away that natural out of focus progression. Now I just shoot normal, but multiple apertures, and choose which I like best in post.
