Default New IS Navi Slow

So I drove the 350 F sport and one thing I noticed is that when you raise/lower the volume or change the channel on the radio using the tune ****, there seems to be a slight delay... like when you have a slow computer or something... anybody notice this? The numbers for the level of the volume will sort of skip if you move too fast... definitely not as fluid as MY 2IS or my parents LS460. Maybe it was just a problem on the demo model I drove.... and For those of you that didnt notice this before and will notice it now... It will probably drive you mad.

I've had the IS for a week and I'm quite satisfied with the function overall.

There seems a slight delay when clicking on some screens like navi but others like aircon and media are generally ok for me.

OT, one problem I've encountered with the new IS is the phone system's "favorites" list. It seems only 14 out of 15 contacts can be stored and when you click on a particular stored contact, the system calls the next one in the list instead of the actual contact clicked on and I haven't figured why.

Another OT, does anyone know if we can play video via USB on the IS? The user manual says that AVI (and a few other video formats) can be played but I've been unsuccessful so far. I can't even navigate to the folder in the USB stick that has the video files in it.

Seems like a lot of bugs need to sorted out in the early models.
Another thing that has been bugging me. When I was sitting in the dealer car it looks like both Nav screen and TFT center gauge look kind of low res. I can see pixels clearly. But the car I sat in Ride and Drive event screens look higher res and even much clearer than 4GS Nav screen. Not sure if my eyes or the one from Ride and Drive have much better LCD.

Hi jagged, I noticed some SD card slots in the IS in the showroom but I forgot if it is one or two. In Japan, they have two SD card slots - one for navi and the other for music. Is it the case for the one you are having?

Thanks.

FWIW the 3IS's I drove had VERY sharp screens, and I felt they were higher res than the screen in my 4GS...

The nav is super sharp in my car. Please clarify the "lot of bugs". I have the early model -- got it today -- everything seems to work as planned -- even the mouse is cool once you get a feel for it The nav is slower than I'd like but not as slow as the one in the Genesis.

Isn't that frustrating considering they're just one model year apart. gotta love technology, buy it and it's obsolete

There is a slight lag, and the system is buggy. We have several which their voice command is nonoperational. Lexus rushed the launch - which is why the original June date was pushed to July and these little problems are showing why July would have been more appropriate. Alas not every 3IS is buggy so best of luck to your ownership and enjoy your new ride

Certainly can be fixed via software updates. The new Samsung f8500 plasma has been updated 4x since it's May launch and they've done things you wouldn't think possible i.e. fix floating black levels, lower the blacks, etc. Granted early adopters are often the canaries in the coal mine but I don't think I or anyone who buys an early IS should feel like a moron and I shouldn't have to read "so best of luck" comments that are of dubious motivation and sincerity to me.

I didn't buy the car for a state of the art -- class leading -- navigation/app/voice command experience. I bought it for the purpose of having fun driving. The tranny/suspension/engine work great -- if those were buggy well then I think we'd have reason to be concerned .

I just checked and my car has only 1 micro SD slot with a card included. This probably stores the maps?

By the way, I'm curious, for the guys who just got their IS, what's the version number of your multimedia software?

isn't it also a lot smaller screen than the 4GS one? maybe similar resolution, just the dots on the 4GS one are bigger.

I didn't know 4GS resolution was so low until I drove one at the event. I guess we're too spoiled with Retina display on iPad.
