Hate to break a consensus, but I hate blind spot monitor on my last car (a Volvo S80) and considered it a gimmick. I'll easily live without on my new IS!
I never had BSM, but your experience made me think of how useful it may (or may not) be. How many times does it alert you such that you begin to ignore it after a while? What about when you're in traffic with no intentions of changing lane and the system is always on alert. How intrusive is it (audibly/visually) In the end, is it more of a nuisance than help?

Not sure how it works on Lexus, but other cars, it just lights up the indicator on the side mirrors to let you know someone is there. If you engage your turn signal to change lanes and someone is in your blind spot, then there is usually an audible alert as well.
Not sure how useful BSD is but I'm more interested in rear cross traffic alert. Many situations where two SUVs parked next to me and can't see much when backing out.
No audible alert for the BSM portion, just the flashing signal in the mirrors. The rear cross traffic will emit an audible beeping similar to the park assist.
On the S80 there was no audible warning, just a light.
To be fair, this wasn't annoying really (and passengers often remarked upon it), so to have it once was quite fun. The only irritance was when the camera got blocked, in which case the light flickered on and off annoyingly.
For all that, it is utterly pointless! Also, it's slightly confusing when you get into another car which has indicators on the side mirrors (where the BSM system was on the Volvo).
Me, I certainly wouldn't pay for it. If it happened to come on a pre-registered model (which was how I got it on the last one), that would be a bonus, but I wouldn't order it.
The car I test drove has BSM. I find its a bit annoying when I drove on the busy highway. It lights up all the time with a orange BSM text in the mirror. It would be better if its just a dot in the bottom corner of the mirror. I wouldn't pay extra for that.
Not sure what's going on with F-Sport pkg price differences for RWD. One of my local dealer has higher price for Fsport. Both come with BSD so it's not the reason like Joe Z said. I also thought they all come with wheel locks and cargo net but this dealer is adding these as extras.

I'm convinced that Lexus accidentally mis-priced the F-sport package on some of the very first cars they sent out for demos. At my local dealer, I went to test drive a 350 f sport RWD with ML, BSM, and VGRS... Sticker was $47,700. I came back a few days later for a second look, and the exact same car (they only have one demo avail), had a sticker for $48,200. The F-sport package was correctly priced at the higher amount...$3620. I didn't ask, but I assumed they updated the sticker after catching the mistake.

Cargo net, wheel locks, and key fob pouches are part of the accessory package that all dealers seem to add on.
