Crap...

Anyway, here's hoping a turbo/supercharged version of the FRS flat 4 finds its way into a race/track version of the IS/GS.

There are serious constraints on flat fours, not the least of which is the requirement of doubling the whole valvetrain. They eat up a lot of space, and the engine bay has to designed specifically for it. COnsidering how well the chassis of the 3IS is designed, I'm sure they can mitigate the higher center of gravity of an I4.

What the 3IS really needs is a good 8 speed auto to compete with the germans in fuel economy.

I'm wondering how they will set the power output of this new engine. There is already so little price separation between the 250 and 350. They can't make the 350 irrelevant.

turbo i4 probably costs about the same to produce or more than 2.5l V6...

I'm guessing about 230 HP.

lets hope for more... who knows... maybe they offer it as low power and high power variants in different variations of the engine...

We'll see but Toyota is usually conservative on HP & torque.
A new generation GS and only a 3 HP gain. The same engine and HP that the IS350 has had for 7 years.

Past stats have shown the 2011 GS had 303hp and 280lbft. The IS had 306hp and 277lbft. I think they tuned it slightly, dropped torque added hp. Oddly enough else where in the world like Japan the 3.5 DI puts out 316hp. grrrr

it is just different rating though, engines are the same... SAE rating method is more conservative than what Japanese use.

I've been thinking a lot about this today.... Nothing gets the attention of fans and enthusiasts more than a dazzling, high-tech engine. They could have kept the 2IS body, added a 2.0T, and I would have been a taker.

Turbocharged . I hope this doesnt affect reliability. Always had problems with turbos!

Toyota's AR Series 4 pot is terrible.
It has a narrow bore with small valves, and a long stroke with hi piston velocity.
Not the sweetest of engines.

The 4's never idle as well, nor rev as well as the V6.
Although the V6 doesn't idle quite as well as the V8, the V6 idle is at least decent.

If Lexus do go the turbo route, is there any chance that they can go the 2.0 V6 twin turbo, 2.5 V6 twin turbo, and 3.0 V6 twin turbo, or two-vaned turbo V6 route?
I'm sure I remember the Cressida sedan and Soarer coupe with turbocharged 2.0/2.5/3.0 in-line sixes back in the 1980's.

A turbo six would idle better, and rev so much better.
The F1 cars back in the mid 1980's etc that Aryton Senna use to race was Honda powered 1.5 liter V6's.

A Lexus turbo six would really leave Beamer and Benz behind...

^^ I like where your head is at (a 2.0L TT V6 sounds cool) but it's highly unlikely
