Default Paddle shifters on steering wheel

Does anyone know if the paddle shifters on the steering wheel could be removed.
My dad doesn't think he'll ever use them and he does not like the way they look either

Thanks,

They can be removed, but there will be a hole exposed on the sides of the steering wheel.

I guess you can custom make a plastic plug and plug it up.
