Just noticed today while washing my new IS that these beautiful wheels have strange and rather cheap looking wheel bolts. Not only are they strange looking, they appear to be uncoated and may be prone to rust. Has anyone seen theirs rust? Are there aftermarket black or charcoal wheel bolts that will make our wheels look better than these parts bin looking bolts?
No way I'd be ok with that. I'd get them cerakoted first, and if that doesn't work, I'd send them out for a PVD DLC. In fact, that's probably what I would try first.
I have these 19mm silicone covers on order from Amazon ($7). I’ll let you know how they look on the car once they arrive. IMO they have to look better than the unfinished bolt heads of the wheel bolts.
Lexus wheel bolts for the IS are 17mm, not 19mm. Those silicone caps may be too large.
But...if you get K-SPEC wheel spacers they come with a nice set of very heavy duty extended wheel bolts that look nicer than OEM. Could be a good way to kill 2 birds with 1 stone in case anyone was already on the fence about spacers.
Alas…V8 Brah is correct! The wheel bolts are 17mm….not 19mm. Never trust AI, go out and throw a socket on the bolt…duh! I will return the 19mm caps when they arrive and order the 17mm. So the pics may be awhile. Sorry…
I ordered the silicone caps and the hard plastic ones. 17mm. The silicone ones are a matte finish and a flat top. They fit pretty loose and I imagine they would eventually fly off out on the highway or at a car wash. The hard plastic ones fit really snug. The provided removal tool is very necessary but is pretty flimsy, so I hope it holds up. I liked the domed look and the shiny finish on the hard plastic ones. Some people on Amazon complained that they cracked one or two installing them. If you line them up perfectly with the head of the wheel bolt and push hard with your thumb they snap right on. I’m guessing the ones that cracked were not lined up properly and they were forced on. That being said I’m ordering another set as a back up.
