So long Miata…hello IS
Absolutely loved this car…but @ 74 it was getting a little difficult getting in and out gracefully. My wife had knee replacement surgery and found it impossible. I will miss this one for sure. It will be the first time in the last 30+ years I won’t have a sports car in my garage.
The IS is a great compromise after owning “many” sports cars. The Lexus performance exhaust adds to the sporty feeling while driving this car. The handling, although it feels heavy in comparison, is lithe enough to invoke a smile in the twisties.

For a 6’, 74 year old man like me it may be 10%-20% easier than the Miata to get in and out of. My 5’4” wife says it’s at least 50% easier for her. Happy wife, happy life. 😂 Our ‘26 Passport is crazy easy and is our daily driver. The IS will be our “special” car like the Miata was…but I believe we will drive it way more often. I only put 2,200 miles on it since last July when I bought it.

You need to hang on to that gorgeous 500! I am certain a decade from now the value will start to move skyward. I previously owned 4 different S2000s over the years and had I kept them all I would have not lost a penny and would have even made money on the 2 preowned ones I bought.
