Hi everyone! New to the forums and to Lexus (coming from BMW). I bought my first Lexus which is a 2017 IS 300 AWD imported from Canada. It came with 225/40/18 tires from Bridgestone but where I live in Europe the weather conditions can go from -7 to +5 wet to +15 dry and all over again. Of course, I also don't actively drive every day and do less than half the average year mileage. This led me to want to buy all-season tires as I also rent and don't have space (perfect specimen for this type of tire).
I was wondering if anyone can help me with the sizing of them. I know when it's 40 - it means it's a low profile tire, I can also see it. But I wanted to go to "normal" tires if possible - at least 50 to 60. Would a 225/50 or 60/18 tire size work?
I am otherwise going for Pirelli, Continental or Bridgestone (still checking prices) as they fit the climate here best apparently.
Welcome. I would say it's generally recommended to only go up a small amount in profile on the tire size. A 225/45R18 would provide a little more sidewall without making your speedometer wildly inaccurate in the process or changing the ride drastically. Personally, I wouldn't do more. I would fear the risk of rubbing over sharp impacts or during full-lock turns.
By the way, are those, in fact, the wheels? Those appear to be 19-inch IS 500 original wheels. If so, you'd have a much harder time fitting bigger tires and would likely need to get a smaller wheel!
