I have a 2014 IS350. The navigation system shows I’m in the middle of the ocean in Antarctica.. Nobody seems to have any idea why. All the other parts of the infotainment system are working. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks for your time.
Ok, if your GPS indicator in the upper left of the display is greyed out, you may have the same issue I recently experienced.
Your GPS receiver may not be recognizing satellites.
Go to the diagnostics menu and check to see if you are receiving positioning data.
Enter the diagnostics menu:
1. Ignition on or car running
2. While holding down the Menu button on your center console, twist the light stalk to flip the parking lights on and off 4 times (going more won’t hurt):
3. From the menu select the ‘System Sensors Check’ menu item.
4. On the System Sensors Check page, watch the top line ‘GPS Reception Number’:
5. Give it 4-5 minutes if nothing is showing up on that line. If you only occasionally see 1-3 yellow boxes and no blue boxes:
You might have the same issue I have.
6. Instead, if you have multiple blue boxes, your GPS receiver is working:
7. Ok, if you are not getting positioning data (no blue boxes), do the following:
A. Turn off the car
B. Pull the ‘Radio’ fuse in the fuse block located under the dash, just to the left of the driver’s position:
Wait a few minutes and put the fuse back in.
C. Turn on the ignition or start the car.
D. The display should show the radio rereading the data card
E. After the map comes up, wait about 5 minutes for satellite data to be acquired, and see if the GPS indicator goes active, and then if the location shows correctly a few seconds later.
If this is the situation you’re in, you’ll find that when you turn off the car and restart, the GPS will be lost again.
My workaround was to use a relay, powered by the Ignition 3 fused circuit, to activate the Radio fused circuit.
So every time I start the car, my radio goes through that initialization sequence of rereading the data card, acquire satellite data and activate the GPS indicator and then correctly display my location.
Yep, looking at your first post, I see your GPS indicator is not on (second box down from the top left of the display).
Follow my post above, and see if you’ve got the same issue that I have.
Question: Did you recently, before your GPS issue started, install any aftermarket electronics?
I can’t say for sure, but my issue was noticed after I installed a remote start kit. Wondering if something got fried in the GPS receiver.
I didn’t install any aftermarket electronics but my battery was low and my car would not read the key fob are turn over are anything. It was saying key not recognozed are something. I got a locksmith to come and program a new key. That didn’t work. I had to get it towed to shop and they put new battery it. Key worked but maybe fried the gps when battery went dead. In diagnostic mode I’m getting one blinking yellow light about every other minute. I’m getting ready to try fuse thanks for your time.
No aftermarket electronics installed, but Car would not crank said it would not read key fob, called a locksmith they programmed new key still would not start, had car towed to shop they changed battery and starter. I think that’s when gps quit. I had only one yellow bar about every other minute. I’m checking fuse now.. thanks for your time.
After you reinstalled the fuse, did your radio start up with a ‘Reading the data card’ (or something to that effect) screen? Just checking to see if you got the full reinit.
Have you had any work done on the car that may have involved the dash or infotainment area? Wondering if your GPS antenna has been disconnected.
When I cut car back the infotainment started loading up with a progress bar and booted up. I had the starter replaced not sure if they had to go into the dash for that. But nothing else and no aftermarket electronics installed. Thanks for your help.
Wow! Thank you much for this guide.. I seem to have the same exact issue as yours. I hardwired an aftermarket dashcam and maybe that caused an issue. Did you ever find a permanent fix for this? Apart from the workaround.

Nope. Still using the workaround when I use the native maps. I subsequently installed a CarPlay/Android Auto unit from BeatSonic, and generally use it, although I do need to jump through a couple hoops each time I start the car, as my radio gets re-initialized, and I have to navigate to activate Bluetooth if I want to hear directions from CarPlay navigation. Been hoping to find time to pull the had unit out and try to diagnose the GPS unit, or maybe just initialize it on startup instead of the whole radio. But that just keeps getting pushed farther down my to-do list.
