I'm looking into 3D printing a horizontal tray to hold a cellphone in place, which incorporates a wireless charger. I'm using one that is small and can be replaced easily from Amazon or other online retailer. The charger I purchased to use for measurements would be included with the tray as a kit. It has 4.1 stars, 4800+ reviews with over 5000 units sold last month. Initially the trays will by compatible with the 3IS models. I would like to gather info on other models that share the same center consol layout. I could then expand to other models as demand necessitates. I am also looking to gather recommendations on features that you would like to see. To start it would be a simple rectangular that would lay horizontally and be black in color. The shape would mimic the outline of a phone with raised edges to hold it secure. 3IS console
Suggestions????
thanks guys.
Placement?
Usually lay my phone on top the heat/cool seat switches, ahead of the gear select lever. Phone slides around now and gets in the way of shifting into park. Something more secure there would be useful.
Well, that's my problem. My only solution right now is to print something that slides over the drive mode selector ****. It would also cover the traction control and snow drive mode buttons. My reasoning is that I personally don't use these very often and the tray will be removable for use if needed, but mostly because it is in a natural position for your hand to use the phone and routing the cord is simple and clean. Like you said, in front of the shifter is cumbersome and there is no place on the dash or windshield that doesn't block your view. Those places also make cord routing difficult.
So that plan won't work. With any large smartphone, there just isn't enough room on the drive mode ****. I'm going to order an armrest to work up a model. I dont think using the cup holders is a good idea, but I would like some input. My plan is to place the phone as close to the cup holder as possible while still allowing its use. This would allow access to the navigation controls as well.
