Is the engine splash shield 100% necessary?
I have a 2012 IS 250 and I live in Florida. Parts of my front splash shield are so brittle and pieces fell off when removing it this weekend to change my oil. I ordered one but it wont be here for a few days but I need my car for work.
Some people told me that this aprt is not 100% necessary because of the climate I am in. What's the consensus on this???

- Keeps the engine bay cleaner by preventing grit and grime and the corrosive effects of road salt from fouling electrical system connectors and components.
- Protects the timing and serpentine belts from premature failure by stopping road grit and debris that’s picked up by the front steering tires.
- The sound-deadening material on the belly pan and underside of the hood limits noise from the engine compartment that’s transmitted to the passenger cabin.
- This one pictured also has NACA ducts to prevent lift when traveling at high speed while directing air to specific components for extra cooling.
- Lastly, it contributes to aerodynamic efficiency. Vehicles equipped with underbody aero packages are about 25% more aerodynamically efficient than vehicles without front belly pans and rear diffusers.
For a few days, I wouldn't sweat it. 24/7 365 I'd have it in place for protection of everything above.
That said, and given your location, I'd think snakes would enjoy such a resting place when it's there too with that hot block to keep them warm for while!

A LONG time ago, the front half of my front lower engine cover got ripped off by debris in the road. Insurance paid for an OEM replacement; but I've long awaited the install as I didn't see the need. If anyone doesn't know, the lower cover (at least on my '06 MY) is a two-piece design. The section where the two connects isn't the strongest.
But back to the point, you'll be fine.
