Engine noise when cold start
VIDEO. 2012 IS 250. Noise has happened every day when I start up the car in the morning, or after a long time of no usage. It’s a ticking noise. Starts out loud like in the videos and then it gets quieter and sounds more like a slow random tick. Goes away after a like 5-10 minutes of driving the car. I got it diagnosed and the mechanic said he thinks it’s the fuel pump. I think it’s the water pump. Any ideas?

^^^ what the whaaaa??? Vacuum.... hmmm....
Listening to that, the noise sounds to be half crank speed, which leads us to the top end. That sounds like stuck lifters not pumping up, which leads directly to show us inside the oil cap as I'm betting this machine missed several oil changes??
And it gets worse from sitting.
And it clears up when ran for a while.
All signs of bad oil, clogged feed ports, and/or low oil pressure.
Missed OCI's. As it clears up as the oil thins out.
Cheap oil.
That's my guess. Change the oil!

for the next 6 consecutive months.
A few the GS350 in the 4th Gen had this problem. Also the Toyota Tacoma V6 crowd. It sounds like the same Vacuum pump 2GR problem.
