Default IS 250 Manual Gbox oil? GL4 or GL 5

The output shaft seal on the manual gearbox is leaking a bit of oil and I need to change it, I allready bought the OEM seal, but now the cars manual says to use 75W90 GL 5...
which oil did you use?
I have 75W90 GL 4 bought from the OEM the local Lexus service centre is not sure which oil they use, still waiting for there call back

Anyone that can shed some light ?

I put Royal Purple 75W90 in a number of years ago and have no comment other than it works.

The oil that came out at 75k miles looked like it was fresh out of the bottle, so at least my specific box would have been good ad infinitum on the factory fill

Read up on the oil you have as some GL-5's can damage brass synchros while many are backwards compatible.

I recently bought synthetic Royal Purple GL-5 and it claims to backwards compatible, i.e. safe for brass like that of GL-4.

I have read something like that with regards to the additiives Gl4 has 50% less of the additives which Gl 5 has, and which can attack the softer metals.

My quistion still is why does the Manaul say GL5, I will phone around some more

I use GL-5 75W90 oil and do not have issues.
I would follow the user manual and use GL-5.
