Default Replacement Car Battery size?

Just had an oil change and was informed my original battery from 2012 failed test. Looking to replace the battery before the Canadian winter hits. Getting conflicting info as to the battery group size for the 2nd gen IS? Costco Canada doesn't even show a compatible battery on their website. While other sites show group 34 will fit, while some other site say Group 24 is the OEM size ? Any advice?

Recently bought one from costco canada, and to my knowledge, 24 is the correct size however costco never has them. 24F is incorrect as terminals are on opposite sides. Group 34 is within specs and works however its shorter and I had to use a shim to be able to connect the positive terminal.

Look on the battery, get the same group number.

Standard size is 24. 34 can fit with some modification as i believe the battery is a bit shorter than 24? You more commonly find AGM batteries in the 34 size rather than 24.

I know Costco carries 24 at least, well, here in the States anyways. My current battery is an Interstate branded one from them, was $99 with 36 months, 700 ccas.

24. Picked mine up at Costco for $99 earlier in the year. My mechanic advised me not to get it at Costco because they are selling Interstate batteries, which he told me have been failing a lot due to them being manufactured in Mexico so he stopped selling them. Since it has the Costco trouble free we take it back without questions warranty I went ahead anyway and bought it

Same, got it from Costco for the same reason. Installed with no problems.

No luck with Group 24 battery here at the local Costco, might goto a few more just to check May have to settle for Canadian Tire motormaster battery, since that's the only place that shows a Group size 24 battery in stock.

This is what I have. Look at the Item #. Good luck. Mine was 2017, installed in August. Hope to keep it at least one more year! And yes I have installed insulation for heat transmission, whether it helps or not.

The Everstart Maxx batteries at Walmart are surprisingly good. Some people laugh when I bring them up, but I have my entire fleet running on them, and they perform better in stress tests than most more well known brands. They seem to last for ages as well. My old 4Runner has one from 2013 in it, still going strong.

While on the topic of batteries. What kind of settings will I lose when I disconnect the battery? Anything major or ways to remedy the issue after?

Your clock, HVAC and infotainment system will reset to defaults. Also the ECU will start to relearn your driving, other than that everything should stay the same

After disconnecting the battery, you'll also need to reset the power windows, or the window buttons will be flashing, auto-up won't work, and you won't be able to control them from the driver door. Starting at the driver door, roll each window down at least halfway, then back up, and then hold the button a second or two after it has fully closed.

Oh, and if you have the option package with seat and mirror position memory, you'll lose the setting for those too.

Probably the easiest way to keep your electronics activated so no re-set of car functions are necessary, would be to use a trickle charger:
1. Hook charger up to battery cables several inches from the posts, pos to pos, neg to neg.
2. Turn on charger.
3. Disconnect battery cables from battery.
4. Remove old battery.
5. Install new battery. If smaller, use spacer on the bottom of battery (free with most batteries).
6. Hook up cables.
7. Unplug charger and charger wires.
8. Done.

If you do this, you don't have to reset anything. Just start your car and go.

Update: Just ended up getting a replacement OEM battery from the local Lexus dealer for about $20 more than I can find from Canadian Tire. The Lexus part# was C0PBS-8424L for future reference. Hope it lasts as long as the original battery, that lasted 9 years... technically still working too.

On a side note, this part# is also a Toyota part# but the local Toyota Dealership refused to sell/order the part saying it can't be done even though it shows up in their parts system.
