The headlight level sensor broke last year and the great people here helped me disable the alarm on the dash by pulling the right fuse. The long metal arm on the current sensor simply broke and I'm told it was likely due to too many potholes.

How hard is it to replace the headlight level sensor assembly? I see the Dorman Headlight Level Sensor at Rock Auto (DORMAN926222 {#8940630140}) for $224 and it mentions "Re-engineered to address failure points in the original materials and design". Is that a good replacement?

It looks like I'd need to remove the wheel or maybe turn it out of the way, remove the old sensor, then install the replacement using the correct torques. Has anyone done this and know the torques and could offer any tips or tricks for this?

 

It's not a hard install. If your'e mechanically inclined. The issue is probably on how to settle the right setting on the arm. Someone may have the detailed instructions. Another thing is the wires, and connectors are in a harh road environment. They may break off trying to get them off the sensor.

As for Dorman not sure on the quality wise. If you see any gaps in the housing where water, and debris could get in. You can bead them with a thin layer of silicone. Most after market housing are terrible at sealing.

 

Is this something where it's best to get the part from the dealer directly for best quality?
