But honestly noise and weight are my biggest concerns. I test drove a RWD IS 250 today and it already felt heavy and underpowered, so I'd rather not go even slower/heavier.

And maybe eventually if someone's getting rid of a pair of stock 18x8 wheels, I'll make that switch for the benefits of a square setup.
AWD doest make it noise as i've owe both rwd and awd IS. IF it noise then there may be issue with that person car. As for weight unless you plan to drag race it not that noticeable. Only think that make it fast is if you getting 350 vs 250 because the added 100hp make the difference not the rwd vs awd. As for gas depends your on driving habits. With 250 awd it was getting my wife was getting 3-4mpg better than my RWD again subject to how you drive it. But power what you want go 350 or ISF if you really want the power.

^Agreed^. If you want additional power, than the IS350 would be the way to go. MPG's are not all that apart from the IS250 and IS350. Having driven both, IS350 RWD all the way for me

I have been thinking more about an IS 350 - the extra 100hp would be great and not having to worry about carbon build up would also be great.

I have two 18" staggered sets of tire for my IS350.
Continental DWS06 (5/32" current tire tread front and rear.... this should last another year or two)
Michelin Pilot Alpin PA4 (9/32" current tire tread front and rear... the rear 255 was hard to find in my area. Costco had it shipped from Canada East to Canada west coast last winter season)

The tire wear is quite even front and rear. The outer side of rear tire wears slightly bit more.

DWS06 ($1000 CAD) is no more than 1/32" every 8 months and PA4 ($1600 CAD) snow tire is no more than 1/32" every 4 months, so the tire should last 5-6 years from new. My impression is that there is no huge cost difference between staggered and squared setup. Personally, I would not save money from tires.

You can fix the outer tire wear issue (or is it inner?) by installing RC-F Lower Control Arm bushings. So far I have no excessive outer or inner tire wear, while getting better steering feel that doesn't knock out my dentures (OK, I'm not that old!)
