Default Lets talk aftermarket maintenance parts

I'm looking at doing some maintenance like revamping the cooling system including a new water pump, and replacing the drive belt and tensioner on my tree-fiddy.

The OEM water pump is pricey. Like around $200. However, it appears that the OEM supplier is Aisin and the Aisin branded unit can be had for less than $100. That one seems like a no-brainer, thoughts?
The belt tensioner is similar, the OEM is crack-head priced. Unlike the water pump it isn't apparent who the OEM manufacturer is, does someone either know who the OEM is, or have a recommendation for a solid aftermarket tensioner?

Most likely it's going to be Aisin.

I'd go with after market with the GATES brand for the tensioner.

In some cases, there is a difference between parts from an OEM supplier, such as Aisin, and an actual OEM part. OEM suppliers may make an identical part, but it may not be up to the same standards as the part they sent to Lexus. Only the OEM would konw whether the part is up to their standards. The aftermarket buyers? We don't have specialized testing equipment.

I doubt that's the case here since you're dealing with reputable Japanese companies which emphasize reliability. You'll be fine with either the Aisin part or a part in a Lexus bag.

If your accessories belt is not slipping, (squealing like spinning your tires), or your power steering and A/C is working correctly, you probably don't need a tensioner as long as the bearing is good for the pulley. If you do have squealing noise, spray a small amount of WD40 on it with engine running and A/C on. If the noise goes away, it is the belt.
